In this recreation of the beloved "Born in the U.S.A." album cover by Bruce Springsteen, we can see "The Boss" standing in front of an American flag. With his iconic for the time, but controversial today, red hat in his back pocket, Bruce looks on at the flag, only now dripping with blood, but the drips are running upwards signifying that the flag is being flown upside down.
In this series of Societies Cogs paintings, Scott has framed in one of his most favorite musicians and makes us reflect that as we all have our place in society, even Bruce Springsteen has his place. The famous, rich, rock star, a cog most of us would love to have. But even he is just a cog in Society.
